Hi-res
11/15/2012 - WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Tech. Sgt. Kathy Morrison is a non-destructive inspection (NDI) specialist for the 442nd Maintenance Squadron. As a maintainer, her role is to search for signs of physical stress on aircraft and its components. She is highly skilled at using various techniques to evaluate material properties without causing damage, ensuring signs of stress not visible to naked eye are detected before they become a risk to pilots and maintainers. In July 2012, she took her equipment and expertise on the road supporting Operation Distant Frontier, a 12-aircraft deployment to Alaska.
Morrison also shoulders the responsibility of many additional duties within the squadron. She is a unit fitness program monitor and radiation safety officer, self-inspection monitor and auditor for civilian timecards. In preparation for the recent inspections, Morrison assisted many in the squadron with the use of the management internal control toolset (MICT) and spent numerous hours auditing and correcting civilian timecards for the maintenance group.
Morrison dedicated countless hours to auditing technician and civilian timecard records to ensure compliance with the time and attendance regulations. She joined the wing time and attendance team as an auditor with no timekeeping background and excelled as an auditor. The inspection team recognized the 442nd FW's program as one of the best seen in 2012, and Morrison played a key role in earning that accolade. She bore most of the responsibility for auditing records throughout the maintenance group and is a highly valued time card auditor. The successful passing of this component of the inspection is due in large part to her hard work.
These reasons made Morrison a critical player in the success of the 442nd FW's passing inspection, and make her a clear choice as the wing's Tip of the Spear for November 2012.
