Video: Death of a Warthog

By Joachim Jacob, Warthog News Editor

Ouch - Oh dear! WARNING: Watching this video should be horrible for every "Hog" professional and enthusiasts like me. Nevertheless special thanks to Warthog News contributor James O'Rear from the United States for linking this very sad clip on Facebook, uploaded on YouTube on December 1, 2011. Anybody who can identify this scrapped "Hog" by serial number?

  1. Sad to watch. That was done here at Hill AFB a few years ago and the aircraft was an ABDR bird. It had not flown in over 25 years and was nothing but scrap metal because of all the ABDR repairs which had been done on her over the years. I believe it was a 75 model but I would have to look through my files to get the tail number. 1 of 715 built... and how she died. One of 715 words which will one day be the story of the A-10 Thunderbolt II "Warthog"!

  3. Sick to my stomach...I know it's just scrap, but I felt I was watching a magnificent beast completely stripped of its dignity. Didn't like watching it at all.

  4. Yet to this day there still isn't a static display Hog at the Cold War Museum at the former RAF Bentwaters! Rolling Eyes

The jet could have easily been disassembled, shipped and repainted to a 81 TFW scheme instead of wasted like this.

    What a shame.

    Cheers! M2

  5. after 5.15minutes when the guy lays the complete tailsection by the other scrap is the tailcode NF clearly vissible.
this tailcode tells me that this jet spends his life in the 602 air control wing (23 TASS ??)as a OA 10 based at davis monthan afb arizona
the tailcode NF stands for Nail Fac,,because the callsign of 23 TASS during the vietnam war was NAIL
